Having a chiropractor treat your back pain is rather common. However, there are some people who avoid going to the chiropractor or are hesitant to see a chiropractor because they have some concerns. Keep reading to learn a little bit about those concerns and why they may not be as concerning as you'd originally imagine.

Will it hurt?

When you see a chiropractor pressing on someone's back and you hear that person's back popping in response, you might worry that the treatment will hurt. But in spite of how noisy they can be, chiropractic adjustments are not painful. The sound is just air moving in the joints. If anything, you will feel a release or relief when your spine is adjusted. Afterwards, some people will feel a bit sore or tight for a day or so, but there should not be any overt pain post-treatment, either.

Are chiropractors real doctors?

Chiropractors are sometimes written off as "quacks," and people are sometimes concerned because they are not medical doctors. It is true that chiropractors do not go to medical school. However, they are medical professionals in their own field, and they do attend four years of professional school to earn their degrees. They also have to comply with licensing requirements in the country and in their own state.

Once you start treatment, will you have to continue forever?

A lot of people who start seeing a chiropractor do keep going, either for a long time or for the rest of their lives. But this is not because chiropractic care is addictive, and it is not because a chiropractor purposefully hurts you so they have to keep fixing you. It's because these people realize how much better they feel, on a daily basis, with regular chiropractic care. If you go for a while, experience relief from your back pain, and no longer want to see the chiropractor, you can stop going at any point.

Will insurance cover your adjustments?

That depends on your insurance plan. However, most health insurance companies are now covering chiropractic care, at least to a certain degree. You may still have to pay a copay, but insurance can make chiropractic care quite affordable.

With these concerns addressed, you should feel more comfortable having a chiropractor treat your back pain. Before long, you should be moving more freely, taking fewer pain relievers, and sleeping more comfortably at night.

I had a hard time doing everything from sleeping to walking, so I decided to start working with a professional chiropractor. However, since I didn't really understand the adjustment process, I was nervous during my first few appointments. This blog is all about explaining the basics of chiropractic care.
